Step Inside The Boathouse!
Imagine preparing to set sail on the St. Lawrence River—our Boathouse Exhibit brings that experience to life! Here, you'll encounter the ancient Longnose Gar, a fish species that has existed since the time of dinosaurs. These remarkable fish have elongated bodies and long, narrow snouts filled with sharp teeth, making them skilled hunters.
Sharing the aquarium are two turtles: a Northern Map Turtle, native to Ontario, and a Red-Eared Slider, one of the most widespread turtles in the world. The Northern Map Turtle is known for its intricate shell patterns resembling a map, while the Red-Eared Slider is recognized by the distinctive red mark near its ears.

Our exhibit is home to an exciting group of reptiles, amphibians, and fish, each with its own unique personality and special role in our local ecosystem.
Some of the cool creatures you’ll find here include a Red-Eared Slider turtle, Eastern Musk Turtles, a friendly Garter Snake, a Gray Ratsnake, Grey Tree Frogs, and even a curious Toad!

Yes, you read that right—our resident beaver shares a name with a certain pop star, and he’s just as entertaining! Justin Beaver gives you a one-of-a-kind chance to see beaver behaviors up close. You might catch him snacking, napping, or hard at work building in his exhibit.
Justin was rescued after being taken from the wild as a young pup, so he’s lived his whole life around people. He’s curious, determined, and maybe even a little stubborn—a true “star” in his own right! Come visit and see why Justin Beaver is such a hit with our guests!

Explore The Historic Frontenac Post Office!
Step into a piece of living history at our Frontenac Post Office exhibit, inspired by the original post office on Round Island. This unique post office, accessible only by boat, has been serving the island community since the early 1900s.
Inside, you'll find interactive features like the Animated Sandbox, where your digging and building bring various animals and environments to life. Don't miss the Creation Wall, where your movements create dynamic visual displays.
The original Frontenac Post Office was part of the grand New Frontenac Hotel, which burned down in 1911. Today, it continues to serve approximately 40 residents who arrive by boat to collect and send their mail.
Come experience the blend of history and interactivity that makes the Frontenac Post Office a unique destination!

Explore The Legacy of The SS Kingston!
Step aboard our replica of the SS Kingston, a historic paddle steamer that once cruised the St. Lawrence River. Built in 1901, the SS Kingston was powered by steam, with large paddle wheels turning to propel it through the water. For decades, this riverboat was owned by Canada Steamship Lines and served as a reliable ferry for both people and goods, connecting communities along the river.
In our exhibit, you can use an interactive touchscreen to explore the 1000 Islands region and discover the engineering marvel of steam-powered travel. Imagine yourself on board over a century ago, gliding down the river, as the SS Kingston brings history to life.
Sail Back in Time on The HMS Ontario!
Step into the Captain’s Quarters and take the wheel of the British warship HMS Ontario—the pride of the 1000 Islands! Built in the 18th century, this grand ship served during the American Revolutionary War. But on a fateful Halloween night in 1780, a fierce storm claimed the Ontario, along with its 130 passengers and crew, sending it to the depths of Lake Ontario. Over 200 years later, divers discovered the ship standing upright on the lake floor, preserved as one of the most remarkable shipwrecks in the region.
Our replica invites you to experience the HMS Ontario’s history and adventure for yourself! Climb aboard, cross the ropes bridge, and make your way to the top deck, where you can imagine life as a crewmate on this mighty vessel. And for a fun exit, slide down the bright yellow slide and continue your exploration!
Unlock the Secrets of The Singer Castle Library!
Step into a world of mystery in our replica Singer Castle Library, where the walls seem to have eyes and hidden passageways await discovery! Known as “The Castle of Mysteries,” the real Singer Castle sits proudly on Dark Island in the St. Lawrence River and has intrigued visitors for over a century with its secretive architecture.
Our Library captures this intrigue with a hidden passage you can search for among the bookshelves—just like in the original Castle! Along with its mysterious elements, the Library offers fun activities for kids, including treasure boxes, building blocks, and plenty of books to explore. Don’t miss our Draw Alive Exhibit, where your artwork springs to life on a giant screen. Uncover the secrets of the Library and let your imagination soar!
Experience The Skiff House and The Rowing Heritage of The 1000 Islands!
For centuries, the St. Lawrence River has been a lifeline for hunting, fishing, and commerce, making boating a way of life. Today, the 1000 Islands region remains a top destination for boat lovers, especially rowers who keep the local tradition alive. Rowing clubs and events bring together enthusiasts from near and far to celebrate the sport with racing shells, known as “sculls,” which glide swiftly across the water.
In the Skiff House, you can get a feel for this heritage with our interactive rowing simulators. Test your skills in a hands-on experience, imagining the thrill of rowing alongside the region’s gamblers, adventurers, and royalty of the past! By exploring the Skiff House, you’ll discover how the art of rowing has shaped the community and culture of the St. Lawrence River.
Embark on a Voyage Aboard The Magedoma!
Step into the meticulously recreated day cabin of the Magedoma, the esteemed steam yacht once owned by Canadian Senator George T. Fulford. This vessel, originally named Cangarda, was built in 1901 and later renamed by Fulford using the initials of his family members: MAry, GEorge, DOrothy, and MArtha.
Although Senator Fulford tragically passed away in 1905, just a year after acquiring the yacht, the Magedoma continued to host distinguished guests, including Canadian Prime Ministers and British royalty, on luxurious day trips along the St. Lawrence River.
In this exhibit, you and your fellow voyagers can take a virtual tour down the St. Lawrence River as it appeared over a century ago. Experience the elegance and charm of a bygone era, feeling as if you're one of Fulford's prominent guests aboard his private yacht.
Journey Through The Universe in our Planetarium!
Located on the fourth floor, the Planetarium invites you to dive into the wonders of our world and beyond! Settle in under the dome ceiling, where you can sit back or lie down as videos take you on a journey through the solar system and our incredible planet. For an interactive experience, our Global Explorer kiosk lets you spin a digital globe and reveal different scientific topics in 3D, bringing the world to life with every touch. And for a glimpse at the bustling St. Lawrence River, check out the Vessel Tracker to see real-time locations of ships from all over the world passing through our local waters. Dive into The World of The Sir Robert Peel Shipwreck!
In 1838, the Canadian steamboat Sir Robert Peel met its fiery end at the hands of Bill Johnston, the "Pirate of the St. Lawrence." Known for his daring exploits during the Patriot War, Johnston led a band of rebels in disguise to capture and burn the ship, sparking a wave of intrigue and adventure along the river.
Our exhibit brings this dramatic history to life. Step into the replica remains of the Sir Robert Peel and explore the underwater world of the St. Lawrence River, now home to native fish that swim through the wreckage. Get a feel for the mystery and excitement of a real shipwreck—no diving gear required!

The Port of Johnstown is a crucial hub in Eastern Ontario, linking farming, trucking, terminals, and shipping to drive industry and commerce along the St. Lawrence Seaway. This port helps move a vast range of goods through the region, playing a key role in the local and national economy.
In this interactive exhibit, you can step into the roles that keep the port running smoothly, working through a network of tubes, elevators, and a real working crane to simulate the flow of goods. Grab some friends and team up to keep the system moving efficiently, just like the teamwork that keeps the Port of Johnstown operating every day. Are you ready to get to work?
